Although 2025 has been declared as the year of visiting Daravandhoo, the hope is to boost tourism in the island within five years, council president Ali Samih said yesterday.

Launching 2025 as the year of visiting Daravandhoo, Samih said this is included in the development plan 2021, which has been formulated with the input of the islanders.

Samih said Daravandhoo has been a friendly village since the beginning and is hospitable to both locals, foreigners and tourists. Therefore, the people are trying to create more reasons to visit the village, he said.

“We want to hear that this is a beautiful and clean island. We want to create many reasons for tourists to come to this island. This is the main reason why we want to do this,” he said.

The council president said that although next year will be the year of visiting Daravandhoo, this is just the beginning. The council aims to make it a tourism hub by 2030

“Our vision and mission is for 2030. Hopefully by 2030 we will make this island the most eye-catching and attractive place for tourists. This will be achieved by the entire people,” he said at the inauguration ceremony of “My Dharavandhoo, Visit Dharavandhoo” event.

A committee was also been formed to organize this event.

Samih said the committee, which includes associations, guest houses and restaurants in Daravandhoo, will hold various activities next year to promote tourism in the village.

The island, which already has 14 guest houses and dive centers, will have a guest beach, night life center, dive jetty and integrated tourism zone. More work is also planned to expand the island’s water sports.

The logo and song of the year was also launched at the ceremony.
