Ahead of the winter season, Azerbaijan Airlines has commenced direct flights from Baku to the Maldives, with the first flight landing at Velana International Airport (VIA) on Saturday. The airline’s arrival was celebrated with traditional Maldivian dance and drumming, welcoming passengers in true local style.
Azerbaijan Airlines will now operate two weekly direct flights from Baku to the Maldives, with a flight time of approximately six hours on a Boeing 737 Dreamliner. The addition of Azerbaijan’s national carrier adds to the growing list of international airlines offering direct routes to the Maldives, contributing to a promising increase in arrival numbers this year.
Other international airlines recently launching Maldives routes include Air Arabia from the UAE, connecting Sharjah International Airport to VIA.
