LG has revealed a new stretchable display that can expand up to 6 inches instantly. Although LG no longer produces smartphones, it still innovates in electronic displays, and it recently demonstrated a prototype of this technology at its Science Park in South Korea.
The screen can stretch up to 50% in size, allowing a 12-inch display to expand up to 18 inches, and can endure up to 10,000 stretches without damage. Known as the Free-Form display, this screen can be stretched, folded, and twisted into different shapes. It uses a special material similar to silicone found in contact lenses, combined with micro-LED technology to maintain clear image quality under various conditions.
The prototype shows promise for new uses, such as displays that can be applied to clothing, skin, and even vehicles. Although it’s still in the prototype phase, this stretchable screen hints at future possibilities for flexible and wearable tech, even though it might be a while before it’s available for everyday devices like smartphones.
