Dharumavantha Hospital Achieves Significant Transformation: CEO Haleem

Dharumavantha Hospital has undergone remarkable improvements under the current administration, according to the hospital’s CEO, Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem. Speaking at the hospital’s official opening ceremony as a fully operational government tertiary facility, Haleem highlighted the stark contrast between the hospital’s initial condition and its current state.

“When this government took office, the hospital was in a neglected state,” Haleem stated. Critical systems, such as the temperature monitoring system, were nonfunctional due to poor maintenance. “Different floors had inconsistent temperatures, leading to the irreparable damage of expensive medical equipment. Many floors were unused and had turned into storage spaces,” he added.

The hybrid cath lab, a vital facility, was also out of service due to maintenance issues. Haleem emphasized that the hospital now operates efficiently, with these problems resolved. The refrigeration and temperature systems have been restored, the cath lab has been replaced, and services adhere to standard medical protocols.

Several unused floors, from the 17th to the 22nd, have been repurposed. Haleem detailed their current functions: the 17th floor now features six delivery suites and a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), while the 18th and 19th floors house 14 private rooms. The 21st floor accommodates administrative offices, and the 22nd floor has been transformed into a dedicated fertility center.

Officially opened as a comprehensive government tertiary hospital, Dharumavantha Hospital now symbolizes a significant leap forward in healthcare services in the Maldives.
