Hithadhoo Records Highest Rainfall in 24 Hours at 110 Millimeters

The Maldives Meteorological Service (Met Office) reported that Addu City experienced the heaviest rainfall in the past 24 hours, with Hithadhoo recording 110.6 millimeters of rain.

In a weather update on Monday, the Met Office explained that the widespread rainfall across the Maldives was caused by a combination of monsoon transition and a low-level circulation in the region.

Hithadhoo led the rainfall statistics with 110.6 millimeters, followed by Gan in the same atoll with 106 millimeters. Elsewhere, AA. Thoddoo recorded 103 millimeters, while ADh. Maamigli registered 95 millimeters of rain.

Heavy rains caused flooding in some parts of Addu City, prompting the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) to carry out dewatering operations.

The Met Office predicts continued bad weather over the next three days and has issued a white alert for the atolls from Haa Alifu to Thaa until 6:30 PM this evening. The affected regions are expected to experience heavy rain and thunderstorms during this period.
