Maafushi staged a dramatic comeback to secure a 1-1 draw against Kendhoo in yesterday’s Gold Cup match.
Both teams were eager to bounce back after losing their opening matches—Maafushi to Naifaru and Kendhoo to group favorite Alifushi.
Kendhoo took an early lead in the first half, with Gasim Shamaam (Shamme’), a former captain of Maafushi’s first division team The Grande, scoring off a well-executed corner kick.
Despite maintaining their lead for most of the match, Kendhoo’s advantage was overturned in the final moments. Mushrif Moosa of Maafushi made a decisive play, resulting in a foul by Kendhoo’s Shizan Waheed. The referee awarded a penalty, which Ali Uzair converted, leveling the score at 1-1.
The intense match ended in a tie, keeping the competition alive for both teams.
