The Maldives Media Council (MMC) has elected its new members for the upcoming term, with Mihaaru News’ Business Desk Head, Fathimath Shana Mohamed, receiving the highest number of votes.
The election, held today at the Social Center from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, saw the participation of 139 voters. A total of 15 members were selected for the council, including eight representatives from various media outlets and seven members from the general public.
Members Elected from Media Outlets:
- Fathimath Shana (Mihaaru Online): 118 votes
- Najah Masood (Vaguthu Online): 117 votes
- Hassan Shakir (Aafathis Online): 93 votes
- Hafsee Abdulla (Hafsee.com): 75 votes
- Hussain Hassan (Hathaavees Online): 74 votes
- Hussain Saqeef (Thiladhun Online): 74 votes
- Nahudha Faiz (Dhiyares Online): 71 votes
Members Elected from the General Public:
- Fathimath Fahmy: 80 votes
- Ibrahim Fauzee: 76 votes
- Ibrahim Mohamed: 49 votes
The current council members’ term is set to expire on December 14. The newly elected members will serve a two-year term, continuing the council’s mission to oversee and promote ethical standards in Maldivian media.
