The travel ban and passport seizure have been lifted for nine individuals implicated in the ongoing investigation into alleged improper land allocations within the Binveriya scheme.
A Police media representative stated that the decision was made following consultations with the Prosecutor General, who provided advice on the matter.
Initially, the passports of 20 individuals were seized in connection with the investigation, including former Housing Development Corporation (HDC) Managing Director Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed and his brother Fazeel Rasheed, who is accused of unlawfully obtaining a plot of land. However, the Police media official clarified that these two are not among the nine individuals whose passports have now been returned.
The investigation centers on allegations that 50 land plots under the Binveriya scheme were sold unlawfully. Following these revelations, 15 HDC employees were dismissed. However, after the new Managing Director assumed office, the dismissed employees were reinstated and placed on suspension.
