The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an advisory urging the public to take precautions in light of adverse weather conditions forecasted for the next seven days.
According to the MET Office, heavy rain, thunderstorms, strong winds, and rough seas are expected to impact the region during the New Year holidays. Additionally, some islands may experience swell waves. These weather conditions are anticipated to persist from tomorrow through Sunday.
In response, NDMA has called on the public to take necessary measures to safeguard property and belongings during this period. They recommend the following precautions:
- Use sandbags to block entryways and prevent floodwaters from entering buildings.
- Secure loose items to prevent them from being displaced by strong winds.
- Turn off electrical appliances when not in use.
- Seafarers are advised to check the latest weather updates before embarking on journeys.
NDMA emphasizes the importance of staying vigilant and prepared during this period to ensure safety and minimize potential damage.
