WAMCO Lowers Waste Disposal Gate Fees Nationwide

The Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) has announced a reduction in gate fees for private vehicles disposing of waste in cities and islands across the Maldives.

Effective immediately, the revised fee structure aims to ease financial burdens and improve access to waste management services. Under the new rates, private vehicle charges have been cut by half, dropping from MVR 212 per tonne to MVR 106 per tonne. WAMCO highlighted that these changes reflect a significant adjustment in service pricing for both urban and island areas.

Additionally, households in the islands will now pay waste management fees via their electricity bills, simplifying the payment process.

This price reduction fulfills President Mohamed Muizzu’s pledge to make waste management services more affordable and efficient.

WAMCO currently provides waste collection services in Malé, various islands, and resorts. The lower fees are expected to encourage greater participation in organized waste disposal efforts, fostering cleaner communities and supporting environmental sustainability.
