Universal, one of the wealthiest companies in the Maldivian tourism industry, has awarded scholarships to three doctors for their specialization this year. The scholarships were presented at a special ceremony by the Universal Foundation, a subsidiary of Universal. The recipients and their respective specializations are as follows:
- Dr. Fatimath Mishfa Waseem: Master of Otorhinolaryngology (Specialist in Ear Diseases)
- Dr. Nuha Abdul Rahman: Master of Pediatrics
- Dr. Aiminath Najda: Master of Surgery (Specializing in Operating)
All three doctors will study in Malaysia, fully funded by Universal. The scholarship program was established last year in honor of Ibrahim Umar Manik, providing opportunities for Maldivian students seeking higher education in health-related fields abroad.
The three recipients will study in Malaysia at the direct expense of the Universal Foundation or Universal Company, which honors the memory of the late Dr. Ibrahim Umar Manik through this initiative. Universal Enterprises has been dedicated to benefiting the Maldivian community for 41 years.
Since 2014, the Universal Foundation has awarded 121 scholarships to Dhivehi students, with 15 students currently studying abroad, according to the foundation. The Universal Foundation also offers direct and indirect support to government and private organizations in the planning and implementation of development, social, and various assistance programs in the Maldives.
