Prizes were recently awarded to the winners of the Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race, which took place last October. The top finisher in the 21.1K race category received a cash prize of MVR 25,000 during a special event hosted by Dhiraagu. Additionally, winners in the 10K, 5K open, and 5K office/resort categories received MVR 10,000, MVR 8,000, and MVR 6,000 respectively, while those in the school category were gifted vouchers—MVR 3,000 for the champions, MVR 2,000 for the runners-up, and MVR 1,000 for third place.
At the ceremony, Dhiraagu also awarded special certificates to winners in various age divisions (45-50, 51-55, 56-60, and 61+ years) for both the 21.1K and 10K races. CEO and Managing Director Ismail Rasheed congratulated the winners, highlighting the Road Race as a significant annual event that draws local and international participants. He emphasized that the event, held in support of child safety, aligns with Dhiraagu’s corporate social responsibility goals.
The race also served as a fundraiser for local charities, with a total of MVR 680,850 donated to 12 NGOs. The five most-voted NGOs each received MVR 80,071, while the remaining seven were awarded MVR 40,071 each.
As the Maldives’ largest annual race, the Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race welcomed over 4,400 participants from 41 countries this year, including students from 28 schools nationwide. Next year’s race is set for October 24, and it remains the country’s only international race on the World Athletics Certified Race Route, featured in the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) World Running Calendar.
