President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that contractor bids for all planned housing projects aimed at addressing the housing challenges across the Maldives will be opened within this month.
The President made this statement during his visit to Kaafu Atoll Gulhi, where he met with the island council, the Women’s Development Committee, and local residents.
President Muizzu clarified that the planned projects include housing initiatives for all regions outside the capital, Malé, which will continue as scheduled. He also noted efforts to expedite the reclamation of Ras Fannu in Malé with the deployment of additional dredgers.
He emphasized that 2025 is set to become the year with the highest implementation of housing projects in the country’s history.
Earlier, President Muizzu announced plans to construct 27,000 housing units this year—15,000 in the Malé region and 12,000 across the atolls. The national budget for 2025 allocates MVR 1.5 billion for housing construction and an additional MVR 1 billion for housing loans.
