Establishing a digital economy is the government’s foremost priority, according to Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed, who emphasized the active measures being taken to achieve this goal. Speaking at a signing ceremony with the Maldives Islamic Bank (MIB) to install ATMs across 19 islands, Minister Saeed highlighted the government’s vision of a digital economy as one of its core pillars.
“We are driven to encourage a digital economy, especially with initiatives like those of [Maldives] Islamic Bank,” Saeed stated at the event held at the President’s Office. He noted that MIB’s commitment to this goal reinforces the country’s strides toward digital transformation.
The Minister also pointed to similar efforts by the Bank of Maldives (BML), which plans to expand ATM access nationwide, showcasing a broader government push to bring modern financial services to all Maldivians. In line with the global trend of financial inclusivity, the government is focused on ensuring that citizens can access essential services digitally, easing payment processes and reducing the need for physical visits.
