The Gaafu Dhaalu Fares-Maathodaa Council, in partnership with the Sri Lanka-Maldives Business Council, has announced a free eye camp scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday. The initiative, supported by Fares-Maathodaa MP Ashraf Rasheed, aims to provide essential eye care services to the community.
According to the council, the eye camp will feature a team of four Sri Lankan ophthalmologists and two technicians. In addition to offering free eye consultations, the event will see the distribution of 300 eyeglasses to attendees.
Fares-Maathodaa Council President Ahmed Imthiyaz revealed the breakdown of the eyeglasses allocation:
- 250 pairs will be given to Fares-Maathodaa residents.
- 50 pairs will be reserved for residents of other islands within the atoll.
Imthiyaz emphasized that the initiative is open to all neighboring islands and confirmed that the council will fully cover the costs, estimated at nearly MVR 1 million.
“This camp is the result of efforts initiated during our visit to Sri Lanka in August last year,” Imthiyaz explained, highlighting the groundwork laid for this community-focused project.
The eye camp underscores the council’s commitment to improving healthcare access and supporting the well-being of its residents.
