FENAKA Expands Water and Sewerage Services Across 25 Islands

In 2024, FENAKA Corporation achieved significant milestones in enhancing essential utilities, introducing water services on 21 islands and sewerage services on four islands, despite financial constraints. The company reaffirmed its dedication to providing uninterrupted and uncompromised basic services to the islands under its care.

With these expansions, FENAKA now serves a total of 107 islands with water and sewerage infrastructure. The corporation has established 31,092 water connections and operates freshwater production systems with a daily capacity of 10,661 tonnes.

In 2024, five islands increased their water production capacity by 564 tonnes per day, while 360 newly occupied housing units were connected to water services. To ensure sustainability, a standardized billing system was introduced in September 2024 for 22 islands that previously lacked billing mechanisms.

In addition to its water and sewerage efforts, FENAKA advanced its in-house solar energy program during 2024. The initiative is projected to save over MVR 19 million annually by reducing reliance on diesel fuel, furthering the company’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions.
