The Maldives Police Service has initiated an investigation into the sexual abuse of a minor who was swimming at Hulhumalé Beach.
In a statement released to the media on Tuesday, police confirmed that the case had been reported last Friday. However, no additional details were provided at this time.
The announcement followed a social media post alleging the release of an individual suspected of sexually abusing children at Hulhumalé Beach. According to the post, the suspect had reportedly harassed minors, attempted to lead them to secluded areas, and tried to touch them inappropriately without their consent.
Cases of child sexual abuse remain a pressing issue in the Maldives. Authorities have published an online registry to disclose the identities of convicted child sex offenders as part of efforts to address this serious concern.
