The Maldives has welcomed 90,000 tourists in the first two weeks of 2025, marking an 8% increase compared to the same period last year, when 83,000 arrivals were recorded.
According to data from the Ministry of Tourism, 70% of these visitors—approximately 63,400 tourists—are staying at resorts. Hotels and guesthouses are accommodating 25,000 tourists, accounting for 28% of total arrivals, while 2,200 visitors are staying on safaris and liveaboards.
Although resorts host the largest share of tourists, they also dominate the country’s tourism infrastructure, comprising 69% of the total bed capacity. Out of the 61,000 tourism service beds in the Maldives, 42,000 are located in resorts. Guesthouses contribute 13,000 beds, making up 22% of the total capacity.
Tourist arrivals during the December-January period are predominantly from Europe. This year, Russia leads the source markets, followed closely by Italy and the UK. China, which held the top spot last year, has dropped to fourth place.
The Maldivian government has set an ambitious target of welcoming 2.2 million tourists by the end of 2025.
