Five Maldivian powerlifters made a strong showing at the Thai Amateur Association of Powerlifting (TAAP) National Qualifiers held in Bangkok. Competing across different weight categories, the athletes excelled in squat, bench press, and deadlift events.
Shamsa Hussain Mohamed secured 1st place in the 69 kg Open category with a total lift of 357.5 kg. Adam Mibsaam Saleem also achieved first place in the 66 kg Junior category, lifting 540 kg in total. In the 66 kg Open category, Mikail Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed placed second with a total of 480 kg, while Imkan Ibrahim claimed third in the 74 kg Junior division with a total of 500 kg. Hussain Zaidan Jaleel placed fourth in the highly competitive 93 kg Open category, lifting an impressive 597.5 kg.
All five athletes qualified for the TAAP 2025 National Championship, with Shamsa meeting the qualifying standard for the Asian Championships and Imkan and Mibsaam qualifying for both the Asian and World Championships.
