A 33-year-old Maldivian man has been taken into custody for attacking a police officer who intervened to prevent him from assaulting another individual with a sharp-edged weapon.
In a statement released on Friday, authorities confirmed that the suspect was apprehended around 6:30 PM on charges of attempting to harm someone using a sharp weapon.
According to the police, the man also tried to attack an officer during the intervention.
Footage of the incident, which has since gone viral on social media, shows two police officers detaining the suspect as a large crowd looks on.
