MIB and Clean Maldives Plant 1,000 Trees to Protect Kudagiri’s Ecosystem

Maldives Islamic Bank (MIB), in collaboration with Clean Maldives and other community partners, has undertaken a large-scale tree planting initiative on Kudagiri Picnic Island. This environmentally focused event, held on Saturday, saw 1,000 trees planted on the island, just a short distance from Male’.

MIB’s CEO Mufaddal Idris Khumri emphasized the importance of environmental stewardship, encouraging all citizens to regard ecological protection as a shared responsibility. Through partnerships with organizations such as the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), and the Maldives Police Service, this initiative brings together diverse sectors of society, showcasing a united front for environmental care.

The event aligns with the Maldivian government’s ambitious target to plant five million trees over the next five years. This long-term commitment, announced by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on World Environment Day, aims to mitigate climate impacts and protect the country’s delicate ecosystems. Planting 90 different species of endangered trees reflects a deep commitment to biodiversity, ensuring that the island’s natural heritage is preserved for generations.

Through this effort, MIB and its partners contribute to enhancing local biodiversity, supporting carbon sequestration, and reducing erosion, aligning with global efforts to combat climate change.
