The Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee has approved a recommendation urging the Prosecutor General to launch a criminal investigation and pursue charges against former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
The investigation centers on assets distributed by the Settlement Committee during the previous administration. The Committee also called for investigations into two other members of the Settlement Committee: former Economic Minister and MDP Chairperson Fayyaz Ismail, and former Minister at the President’s Office Ali Siyam.
The Committee alleges that individuals in senior government positions were involved in the unlawful misappropriation of public property. It has declared compensation agreements made between 2019 and 2023 as invalid, and instructed relevant authorities to recover the assets distributed under these agreements.
Additionally, the Committee emphasized that these officials, while holding significant public office, allegedly violated their constitutional and legal responsibilities by attempting to wrongfully transfer public property to undeserving parties.
