President Muizzu Wraps Up South Ari Atoll Visit

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has returned to Malé after completing an impactful tour of several islands in South Ari Atoll, where he engaged with local communities, councils, and Women’s Development Committees (WDCs) to address pressing concerns and development needs.

During the visit, President Muizzu held discussions focused on improving public services and infrastructure, reflecting the aspirations and challenges of the local population. He also visited health centers and schools throughout the atoll, assessing their conditions and identifying areas requiring immediate attention.

Major Announcements and Initiatives

  1. Support for Women’s Development Committees
    • In Adh. Dhangethi, the President announced that members of WDCs would begin receiving Ramadan benefits starting in 2025.
  2. Economic Reforms
    • President Muizzu pledged to address the country’s foreign exchange issues, promising to resolve the dollar shortage within six to twelve months through the effective implementation of the newly ratified Foreign Currency Bill.
  3. Enhancing Local Governance
    • Plans were revealed to amend legislation, allocating a percentage of tourism revenue directly to local councils to improve their financial autonomy and governance capacity.
  4. Response to Recent Challenges
    • Addressing the recent fire that damaged the offices of three Government ministries, the President reaffirmed the administration’s resilience and pledged support for affected employees and the public.
