Sun Siyam Vilu Reef celebrated the return of one of its most cherished guests, Bärbel Richter, fondly known as “Mama,” as she arrived for her 45th visit to the idyllic resort.
Mama, now 75, first visited the resort with her husband, Hans, on December 5, 2000. The German couple quickly formed a deep connection with Vilu Reef, affectionately calling it their “first home” and its staff their “children,” earning them the loving titles of Mama and Papa.
Although Papa was unable to join this time due to age-related walking difficulties, Mama’s return on Friday was met with joyous celebrations. The resort’s team greeted her in traditional Maldivian style, with bodu beru drumming, dhigu magu hingun, and vibrant cultural dances, showcasing the warm hospitality that defines Vilu Reef.
In an interview during their 30th trip to the Maldives in 2017, Mama expressed her love for the island paradise. “This is our home. These are our children. They make us very happy,” she said.
Sun Siyam Vilu Reef has a loyal following of repeat guests, including the renowned “Vilu Sisters,” Melanie Per and Nicole Per, a testament to the resort’s exceptional experiences and hospitality.
Located in Dhaalu Atoll, just a 35-minute seaplane journey from Velana International Airport, Vilu Reef offers 103 stunning island villas that embody a rustic yet vibrant Maldivian charm. With luxurious amenities, world-class dining, and rejuvenating spa treatments steeped in tradition, the boutique resort provides the ultimate tropical escape.
