A taxi lost control and caused a serious accident at Velana International Airport (VIA) this morning, resulting in injuries.
The police reported that the incident occurred at 9:45 am when the taxi struck road dividers, collided with a van, and then crashed into the rear of a pickup truck.
The taxi driver sustained injuries and was immediately taken to Hulhumale’ Hospital for treatment. A passenger in the back seat of the taxi suffered minor injuries and received medical attention at the airport clinic.
According to Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), which manages VIA operations, initial investigations revealed that the driver lost control due to a medical emergency.
The police have launched an investigation into the incident.
Accidents at VIA are not uncommon. In 2022, several MACL employees were injured in a separate vehicle accident at the airport.
