The Vital Registration Office of Male’ City Council has been temporarily moved to Hulhumale’ due to a fire that affected the building housing several key government ministries.
The office, which handles birth and death registrations, as well as records related to residence and land ownership, is now operating from the Hulhumale’ council office located on the ground floor of Amin Avenue Maple.
The City Council confirmed that all services previously offered at the Male’ location have been relocated to the Hulhumale’ office. In the meantime, council staff, in collaboration with the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), are working to recover vital documents from the fire-damaged building.
Deputy Mayor Ahmed Nareesh, who visited the scene, assured the public that birth certificates can be recovered even if lost in the fire, but unfortunately, records of homes or land cannot be retrieved if destroyed.
The fire, which broke out at the Maafannu Green Building housing the Housing, Environment, and Construction Ministries, as well as a Male’ City Council office, was brought under control after four hours.
