The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has initiated an investigation into allegations involving the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) regarding the procurement of an office building for the Agency.
While confirming the ongoing probe, ACC refrained from providing additional details.
Social media claims suggest that a transaction of MVR 34.8 million, related to the procurement of the office building, was conducted with someone other than the building’s actual owner. Allegedly, a building rented by MMTV for its operations was subsequently sub-leased to NSPA.
In a statement released Friday night, NSPA denied these allegations, asserting that the transaction was carried out directly between the Finance Ministry and the Agency, adhering to all relevant regulations. The Agency emphasized that no third party was involved in the matter.
NSPA also highlighted its commitment to transparency, stating that the information regarding the transaction was publicly accessible. The Agency condemned efforts to undermine its integrity, stressing that it plays a vital role in safeguarding the social welfare of the public.
The statement further revealed that NSPA has formally requested ACC to conduct an independent investigation into the allegations. A letter signed by NSPA President Heena Waleed was sent to ACC President Adam Shamil, urging a swift inquiry and requesting the Commission to share its findings promptly.
