AFCON Cargo has commenced regular cargo flight operations to the Maldives. A recent flight from Chennai, India, to Malé delivered 20 tons of cargo, exported via Etihad Airways.
According to Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), AFCON Cargo plans to operate three weekly flights, with intentions to expand services in the future. The company is also establishing interline agreements with major airlines to enhance cargo movement at the airport.
AFCON Cargo emphasized that the airport’s integration into global cargo logistics will bring significant economic benefits.
Meanwhile, Velana International Airport’s Sea-to-Air cargo transshipment service has facilitated the export of 1,000 tons of goods as of early last month. Currently, 12 airlines participate in this service, including Virgin Atlantic, Turkish Airlines, Qatar Airways, Emirates, Etihad Airways, Aeroflot, NEOS, Gulf Air, Discover, Austrian Airlines, Condor, and British Airways.
