The President’s Office has announced the reopening of applications for the Maldives Broadcasting Commission (Broadcom) membership.
This follows the upcoming expiration of terms for Commission President Mariyam Waheedha and Member Ali Yoosuf in December. While applications initially opened earlier this week, the process was reset, and the new deadline for submissions is set for December 9 at 12:00 hrs.
The announcement aligns with the standard procedure of initiating nominations for independent institution roles a month prior to the term’s expiration.
Separately, Thulhaadhoo MP Abdul Hannaan recently proposed a bill to establish a unified media commission, consolidating the Broadcasting Commission and the Maldives Media Council, which oversees online media. However, the proposal, which sparked concerns among media professionals, was withdrawn after President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu clarified his stance against it.
