Sh. Funadhoo island is set to enhance its eco-tourism offerings with the development of a new eco-park and tourist hotel in the naturally beautiful mangrove area known as Dhaffalhu. Funadhoo Council has announced plans to establish these eco-friendly facilities, focusing on sustainable tourism that respects and preserves the environment.
Dhaffalhu is a unique habitat that attracts a variety of bird species, including migratory birds not commonly seen in the Maldives. By introducing eco-tourism infrastructure, the council aims to make Funadhoo a must-visit destination for nature enthusiasts and bird watchers.
The council is currently seeking proposals for a detailed survey and design plan for both the tourist hotel and eco-park. Interested parties have been asked to submit expressions of interest by November 19 and complete bid proposals by November 24. Once the project is awarded, construction is expected to be completed within six months, adding new options for visitors looking for immersive natural experiences in the Maldives.
This project represents a step towards sustainable tourism development for Funadhoo. The planned eco-park will provide visitors with an opportunity to connect with the unique mangrove ecosystem while promoting conservation efforts and showcasing the natural beauty of the island’s diverse flora and fauna.
