The Maldives Police Service has successfully recovered five laptops stolen from the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) office located in Farukolhufushi.
The theft occurred three days ago and was reported to the police on Sunday. Following media inquiries, police revealed that the suspect accused of stealing the laptops is currently in custody on a drug-related case. The individual has reportedly been cooperating with authorities to facilitate the recovery of the stolen items.
Shortly after announcing the suspect’s cooperation, police confirmed that all five laptops had been retrieved. However, details regarding the recovery process, including the location and circumstances, were not disclosed.
HDC officials stated that the suspect had been identified using CCTV footage. Despite rumors that the stolen laptops were from the corporation’s finance department, HDC denied these claims, clarifying that the incident involved the Projects Department.
HDC has since filed a formal case with the police regarding the matter.
