The ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) commenced its internal elections on Saturday morning, with members voting to select hundreds of party officials.
Polling started at 10:00 am at stations in Malé and across 88 other islands. The PNC set up 144 ballot boxes nationwide, with 52 located at Dharubaaruge in Malé City.
A total of 1,984 top party positions were open for candidacy. Of these, 1,300 candidates secured their posts unopposed, while 648 are competing for the remaining positions.
Approximately 33,500 PNC members are eligible to participate in the voting process. Polling was scheduled to close at 2:00 pm.
