The positive change in drug prices will be seen from next year

Deputy Finance Minister Ahmed Saeed Mustafa said, the price of medicines will be controlled and the benefits of the import of medicines will be seen from next year.

Saeed said the government is now working to reduce the wasteful expenditure of AASANDHA.

The national insurance system of the people of MALDIVES is a wasteful system. While AASANDHA’s expenditure is increasing year by year, more than half of AASANDHA’s expenditure is spent on importing medicines. Therefore, the President directed the relevant authorities to reduce the cost of medicines. The work is now being done by various government agencies. One such institution is the Ministry of Finance.

The ministry has taken steps to control the price of medicines in collaboration with other relevant agencies. The bulk procurement method of pooling drugs will significantly reduce the cost of drugs.

Speaking on PSM News’ Rajjemiadu program, Deputy Finance Minister Ahmed Saeed said the measures being taken will see a positive change next year. Thus, it is believed that things will continue to improve without changes in the quality and availability of medicines.

“The quality and quantity of medicines available to the people will be delivered at huge profits without changing the quality of medicines available to the people. These will be fully operationalized in Saeed explained.

The government is currently working to control the price of medicines and provide them to the people at a better level. The price of imported medicines in MALDIVES is currently at a profit of between 200 percent and 2,000 percent, he said.

With the move to change that, the import of drugs through pooled bulk procurement has started. The government has decided to import and circulate seven types of drugs this year.
